Tutor Program

The tutor program initiative, funded by the Victorian Government for 2021, aims to combat the learning impacts of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic on our students.

The focus is on Literacy and Numeracy across the Key Learning Areas.

Small groups of students have been nominated using student data, Co-ordinator and Teacher recommendations.

Students are withdrawn from class to work in small groups with their tutor on skills to complement and assist them with their classroom work and assessments.

VCE students have been provided with some tutorial sessions before and after school, and also in private study periods (Year 12).

Read some feedback below from students who are part of the program.

Year 8

“My tutor focuses on future topics which helps me get prepared for whatever we are learning.”

“Tutor has helped me with my writing and spelling. I am also more confident about asking questions.”

“I feel confident in this class. I didn’t know fractions were that easy!”

Year 9

“I like how the tutor explains things clearly and gives me questions to further my understanding”

“I get more time to practice equation formulas that help improve my application and understanding.”

“A positive aspect of the program is being able to review things I don’t get and getting a good understanding of them, such as sectors.”

Year 10

“Tutor is good because we get one to one help and because it is a small number of students, there are less distractions.”

“Tutoring is beneficial for me and makes me feel more confident when doing Maths.”

“I like this program very much. It expands what we learn in class and gives me a better understanding.”

“My tutor explains things well and is easy to understand. I find the program is useful for both Math B and B advanced.”

“I find the tutor program good because it has helped me gain a better understanding of the work which is reflected in my improved grades.”

“I learn how to work things out in a simpler way and what methods I should use to decrease the chance of error.”

“I feel more confident with identifying essay structures, but still need to work on Macbeth and my grammar.”

“Personally, at first, I did not think I needed an extra tutor. However, I have found it quite beneficial in helping me get back on track and focus more after “swaying aside” for first term. I’ve enjoyed the one to one as well as small group discussions. I’ve found the explanations very clear and easy to understand. I’ve understood 3-4 exercises worth in one session.”

Year 11

“I like the calm and quiet. It helps me focus and I find it helpful.”

“I find the tutor sessions relaxing. Our tutor uses simple methods to explain big concepts. I find it easy to talk to my tutor without feeling embarrassed.”

“It’s improved my score.”

Year 12

“Review topics that I learn in class and areas that I’m not sure about are clarified”

“Good to have a tutor to help me with the work."
