Interschool Sport

Congratulations to the Blue Volleybounce Team, Red Teeball Boys Team and the Blue Tennis Team for making the District Pool finals last week.  We hosted 7 schools with the different sports on Friday so that most of the finals could be concluded for this week’s District finals.  Congratulations and good luck to the Blue Tennis Team who will be playing Heathmont East this Friday for the District final.

House Cross Country

The House Cross Country Competition for Years 3 – 6 will be upon us before we know it. The House Cross Country will be held on Friday 30th April, which is the end of the second week back in Term 2.  It was originally scheduled for the Tuesday 27th April which is on the printed calendar, but due to other circumstances, we have had to change this to the Friday 30 th April.

We are going to require parent help for this morning, from 9.00am – 11.15am.  If you are available, we will be asking for volunteers to assist.  If you already know that you can help out, please let me know by emailing me at Noreen.McMenaman@education.vic.gov.au , otherwise ring the office or let the class teacher know.  This has already been loaded onto Compass as an Event with a Newsfeed.  We need about 23 adults to supervise the course which runs through Yarrunga Forest, so that the children can be safe and in case of any accidents or problems.  We cannot run this event without the assistance of our wonderful parent community.  We would be very grateful if we could get the amount of adults needed to assist.  Attached to the Compass event is also a map of the course and also the Parent helper form (also attached below) if you are able to fill that in and send it to me please. Thank you to the parents who have already reached out to let me know they can help.

Ride2School Day

Well done to everyone who rode their bike, came on their scooter, skateboard, own two feet and even roller blades last Friday on Ride2School Day.  It was great to see so many students participate in the day as well as wearing their Orange for Harmony / Kindness Day.  Well done to the students who won the Crazy Helmet competition. They looked great!

Dress Up for the Royal Children's Hospital

Come in your favourite free dress on the last day of term next Thursday and bring a gold coin donation for the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal.  Each year, the CHPS community supports this life-saving hospital and the Junior School Council hopes to raise a great donation in 2021.  Don't forget to wear your favourite clothes!

Sensible Stuff from Sophie in Sickbay

As the seasons are changing, just a little reminder about sick children. Deciding when to keep a sick child home from school is not always easy.  It is important for children to attend school and for some parents staying home means missing work.  However, when a child is truly sick, they need to stay home in the care of an adult to get well and to prevent spreading illness to others.  We are all going to be a little immune-deficient after a year in lockdown and at our school we have students who have medical conditions which make being sick much more difficult to deal with.

A child with heavy cold symptoms, such as deep or uncontrollable coughing or significant lack of energy belongs at home, even without a fever.

Children who have vomited or had diarrhea should be kept at home and should return to school only after being symptom‐free for 24 hours at a minimum.

TIPS FOR STAYING WELL and PREVENTING THE SPREAD OF GERMS

-Wash your hands often with soap and water especially after coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose. Alcohol‐based hand cleaners are also effective.

-Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth to help prevent the spread of viruses.

-Don’t share food, utensils, beverages or anything that might be contaminated with germs.

-Try to avoid close contact with sick people. Stay home when sick, especially with flu‐like symptoms of fever and cough.

-Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the bin and wash your hands.

-Cough and sneeze into your sleeve or elbow instead of your hands if you don’t have a tissue

-Clean surfaces that may be contaminated with germs using household disinfectant cleaners.
