Kinross Wolaroi 1st XV v The Armidale School

24 April 2021

Kinross Wolaroi 1st XV had a strong performance against a well drilled TAS First XV. The game was played at a frantic pace with TAS scoring in the first 15 seconds as they kicked off and regathered to score. KWS then capitalised with some straight hard running by Carter Kirby resulting in the first try for KWS. Shortly after this Patrick Hickman scooted around the ruck to score. KWS looked sharp in attack and the backs were capitalising well of clean lineout ball from the forwards. William Deshon was rewarded for his hard work and crashed over for a try after diving on a loose ball from a scrum.

The second half saw TAS dominate possession early and were pressuring the KWS line frequently. The scrambling defence was outstanding by the KWS men.

Fletcher Doyle was proving difficult to handle in the second half scoring two tries through some fancy footwork. Although, the second half was a little scrappy it was an excellent test for the teams defence and fitness, which puts them is a good stead for the weekend against Sydney Grammar School.

Australian Swimming Championships

Oliver McLaughlin finished 7th in the 200 backstroke to cap of a great week for him with a silver in the 100 back just missing in the 50 back in a very creditable 4th and 7th in the 200 back. Ollie swam finals in his age group (18/19 years) but his times placed him 10th overall in Australia, not bad for a boy from the bush.

Kyla Brown accredited herself well going from 47th in the 100 breaststroke to 9th in the final.  Amazing effort.

Hugh Gillham, who for the first time swam in the Paralympic class turned a few heads finishing with 2 golds a silver and a bronze at the end of his campaign. H.G. also swam under the Olympic qualifying time 3 times over the course of the week in the 100 Fly.
