Kindergarten Singing

In Kindy music, students learn a large range of different songs to develop their listening and singing skills whilst also developing their ability to distinguish between different musical concepts. At the end of last term, we learned several songs connected to Easter and played games to develop these skills.

A-tisket-a-tasket – Mrs Sinclair hides the Easter basket for the students to find. Students are given a helping hand by listening to a sound played high or low to help them look for the basket ‘up high’ or ‘down low’.

John the Rabbit – this is a ‘call and response’ song. Students listen for the part in the song to sing their response and jump up on the spot. This utilises their listening skills and encourages turn-taking.

Hot Cross Buns – this three-note simple song would have been sung by most people at some point in their childhood! Students isolate the ‘silence’ in the music by taking a big bite out of their imaginary hot cross bun.

Year 1 Strings – Term 2

Students taking place in the program for Term 2 will have received an email with information about the program and an instrumental hire form. Please fill out the form and return to school asap.

Musica Viva Live Music Performance

On May 28, we will be lucky enough to host a live concert by musicians from the group ‘Mara’ for all our K-6 students. In the Music in my Suitcase program the Mara! band share songs from many different cultures that they learnt abroad and right here in Australia. They use music as the common language because it is fun and it helps us to understand and connect with others, which can change our lives. Students will engage in listening to and participating in a range of songs from around the world, broadening their awareness and appreciation of the rich culture of music from Australia and beyond. This will be a fantastic event for all our JS students.

String Ensembles - Pick-up Reminder

Now that we have recommenced rehearsals for Term 2, a reminder that at the end of rehearsals students are to be picked up from Allenby Road ‘kiss and go’ zone or met by parents directly outside the Music Centre. Students will be supervised at Allenby Road until parents arrive. If students are moving to after school care or swim squad they are asked to do so directly and promptly. Students should not be going to the JS pick-up zone after rehearsals. Please recap Tuesday pick-up details with your child and if there is a change to your usual plan, please notify Mrs Sinclair or Mrs Moxey so we can ensure they reach their required destination. We appreciate your support in assisting us to get everyone home safely.
