Hannah Whittemore, Head of Girls Boarding

A very warm welcome back to the KWS Boarding Community for a busy and productive Term 2.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself; my name is Hannah Whittemore and I am the new Head of Girls Boarding at KWS. It has certainly been a busy start to the term and I am very lucky to have been welcomed into such a supportive and diverse community. I come to KWS with seven years of boarding and pastoral experience at Ascham School in Sydney, but most recently at St Vincent’s College in Potts Point.

I am very much looking forward to using my experiences to enhance an already rich, vibrant and thriving boarding community, and to focus on developing a boarding wellbeing and activities program that looks to address issues that our students face at different developmental stages.  Head of Boys Boarding, Anthony Begg and I will work closely together to align our programs to deliver meaningful messages to our students, to equip them with the tools to succeed in boarding and beyond. Both our boys and our girls are faced with such unique challenges as boarders in their everyday lives and it is so important that we work together to support them, encourage them and develop not only their wellbeing but also their resilience.

My focus will also be to look at how we can further support boarders in their studies through boarders’ Prep, and to work closely with the day school to communicate academic needs in the boarding environment. I will work closely with the PLC Campus  Heads of Houses to appreciate the unique nature of each of the house and the girls who live in them to begin to develop my relationship with not only them, but with you.

The girls have begun the term with great enthusiasm and I have appreciated the warm welcome that I have been given by the House Staff and the girls when I have been in the boarding houses.  It has been great to be involved in some of the boarding activities that the houses have participated in and I am looking forward to getting to know the girls better as the term progresses.  During the winter season I will be coaching a netball team and will not doubt see many of our boarder girls in action on the courts on Saturday.

With the upcoming regional tours I look forward to meeting some of you soon, but please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss your daughters or anything related to the boarding community. I welcome your ideas as well as your feedback.
