NSWPSSA Swimming

Congratulations to Jacob Smith who recently gained selection in the Polding Swimming Team to compete at the NSWPSSA Swimming Championships in four events. Jacob came 2nd in 50m Backstroke, 2nd in 50m Butterfly, 2nd in 50m Breastroke and 3rd in 50m Freestyle.

At the NSWPSSA Championships yesterday and today, Jacob came 14th overall in Freestyle and Breastroke. He smashed the competition out of the water in the Backstroke and went into the final as the 2nd fasted swimmer. He knocked over a second off his time and came first in the final. This makes Jacob the fastest 11 year old boy backstroke swimmer in the State!!!!! He followed this swim up with the Butterfly final where he was ranked 6th. After a close race He finished the final in 6th place.

Along with Jacob, our Junior Girls Relay Team (Matilda Denovan, Molly Ramien, Eugenie Goddard and Maggie Brown) and our Senior Girls Relay Team (Dana Campbell, Audrey Hannaford, Danika Jones and Tahni Bush) also swam exceptionally well at the NSWPSSA Championships.

The Junior Girls swam yesterday and were very impressive with a finish placing them 19th overall.

The senior girls swam today in a very exciting race and they came away in 9th place. These are all such impressive results and the staff were cheering on from the staff room while watching the live feed of the races.

AFL and Basketball

Last week some of our students attended their last visit for the term from representatives from Sporting Schools Australia.

Our Year 6 students had a great time with Matt Hobson from Tamworth Basketball Association and learnt many new basketball skills and enjoyed putting their skills into practice by playing lots of fun games.

Our Year 2 students had Will Priest, an AFL Development Officer from Tamworth. Will worked on catching, passing and kicking and the students were very lucky to each receive a football and some football cards at the conclusion of their last session.

St Xavier's is fortunate to receive this funding from Sporting Schools Australia and we hope it encourages students to try these sports outside of school.
