Year 9 Welcome BBQ

Last week the year 9 Students and their teachers were invited to share a ‘Welcome to Middle School BBQ’. This BBQ lunch was a great opportunity for students to interact with each other and their teachers whilst enjoying the warm food. It is always great to see the students with smiles on their faces and enjoying their first meal together since becoming part of the Middle School.

Athletics Carnival

It was fabulous to see so many year 9 and 10 students getting involved in the various events at the Athletics Carnival which was held earlier this week. Students embraced the day, dressing up in their house colours, spending time with friends and participating in athletics events as well as novelty activities. Year 9 and 10 students are encouraged to continue to get involved in the various college activities that are on offer in the coming months and years.

Term 1 done

The Middle School Team would like to congratulate all Year 9 and 10 students on a wonderful start to 2021. We wish all students and their families a wonderful, relaxing and safe break over the holidays. We look forward to seeing students back at school on Monday 19 April, when we commence Term 2.

Mental Fitness Presentation

Last week the Year 9s and 10s were lucky enough to have Liam from the Black Dog Institute come and speak to us about ‘mental fitness’ and teach us about how to improve our mental health on a daily basis. Liam was very inspirational to us because he is an upcoming paralympic triathlete. His story enabled us to understand that no matter what happens in life, we should always look on the bright side and find something to be grateful for.

Liam gave us some strategies to use when we need to improve our thinking and mental health. These included: gratitude; recognising our strengths; and creating social connections. We went through a range of simple activities such as:

  • True or false quiz based on what are the best things to do for our mental health
  • Speaking to our friends on what we thought our key strength were
  • Speaking about strengths we would like to focus on and work

Overall, Liam’s presentation was an interesting and fun experience and we’re sure the Middle School students enjoyed and learnt some useful skills from it. If anyone is interested, this is the link for the Mental Fitness Challenge. https://www.biteback.org.au/
