Principal's Message

Welcome to Term 2.

One of our Strategic Plan goals is to improve parent engagement and connectedness with the school. To help us achieve this goal, we are implementing an electronic newsletter format. The new format can be viewed on any device and can also be translated into your preferred language. We hope this makes it easier for parents to keep up to date with important information, upcoming events and things that your children have been doing at school.

Stay Connected with the Compass Parent Portal

The College's main communication tool for parents and guardians is the Compass Parent Portal

The Portal is where you can view your child's timetable, learning tasks and reports, book parent teacher interviews, check your child's attendance, enter an absence note, access a 'News Feed' relevant to your child and update your contact details.

If you don't currently have access to the Parent Portal, it's important that you contact us here or visit one of our campus offices to obtain access as soon as possible.

Have your contact details changed?

It's essential that the College has current telephone numbers for all parents and guardians, whether it's to discuss your child's progress or contact you in the event of an emergency. Please also advise us if you have recently moved or changed your email address. Parents and guardians can easily update their details on Compass using the Tools menu in the top right hand corner, or send us a message here. We appreciate your assistance in keeping our records accurate.

Continuous Reporting

We had record attendance at our parent teacher interviews at the end of last term, which was great to see. Parents in our community are actively engaging with their children’s school work and supporting them at home to achieve their best at school – which is also great to see. A reminder that this year we have moved to a model of continuous reporting through Compass which means that:

  • You can see all of your child’s upcoming assessment dates published on their Compass page.
  • You can see your child’s assessment grades two weeks after each task is finished.
  • You can see grades for your child’s binder organisation in each subject (and Cornell Notetaking grades will be up by Monday 30 April).

Continuous reporting allows you to congratulate your child on great results as they achieve them or detect any early warning signs that need attention. All of the assessments will be summarised at the end of the semester in a Statement of Results which can be used for job and scholarship applications. Please speak to your child's subject teacher if you have any queries about their academic progress.

Cheers,

Genevieve Simson
