YEAR 10 MOCK INTERVIEW DAY

Year 10 students had the opportunity to practice their skills and prepare for future interviews by taking part in the Mock Interview Day on the 15th August. Some students were nervous, others confident and well prepared. Preparation for the Mock Interview Day was conducted through all English classes and students received additional interview skills and practice and time to think about how to answer questions. Year 10 now have a resume and portfolio and some knowledge on how to be prepared for interviews. Feedback and overall evaluation of the ten-minute impression during the interviews will be returned to students, which will assist them in preparing for future interviews.

Youth Frontiers

A group of 5 Year 9 girls, Jacinta, Russia, Jai-Ann, Mursal and Laelia have been involved with a Mentoring program called Youth Frontiers. Youth Frontiers is a NSW Government funded youth mentoring program in which volunteer mentors work with a young person over a 6 month period to develop a community activity. The aim of this program is to guide a young person to make a positive contribution to their community and in doing so further develop their confidence and learn new skills.

The girls have worked hard over the past few months to develop a community initiative where they attend a local aged care facility run by Warrigal Care, to work with the residents and offer them stimulating leisure activities. They have planned a range of activities they will offer over the next month at the facility.

The first week didn’t go to plan as they were unable to head out into the gardens to do some succulent planting due to the strong winds and cold weather. Instead the spent the time talking and getting to know the residents and finished off playing and calling the Bingo numbers.

Week two saw them move into the kitchen, where they baked up some delicious ginger bread men and cookies. Both the residents and girls have enjoyed and benefited from their time together and are looking forward to the activities planned in the coming weeks.
