English News
This year, in 7L English, students are undergoing an exciting new novel study programme. Students are given the free choice of finding their own novel, one that suits their individual interests, and reading this book at school and at home. Students are also given a variety of diverse activities to complete on their chosen novel, ranging from designing a new book cover to composing an exposition arguing why their novel should be made into a film. Our 7L students should be very proud of their challenging choices in text, as some of the novels include Michael Crichton’s ‘Jurassic Park’, Suzanne Collin’s ‘The Hunger Games’, James Dashner’s ‘The Death Cure’ (from the Maze Runner series), Sarah Lotz’s ‘The Three’, and many more complex and engaging texts for their reading age.
Students will complete activities on their novel and place their work in a portfolio, which will be on display in E26 on our LIHS Exposition Night. 7L students will also be helping out on Expo Night in E26, demonstrating what is on offer in our English Junior (7-10) Syllabus units. We look forward to seeing you there!

Welcome to 2019 from the Maths Staff
The Mathematics and Computing faculty welcomes you to 2019.
Congratulations to the 2018 HSC students especially Dylan Potter who obtained a band 5 in Advanced Mathematics and a band E3 in Extension Mathematics.
Over the last few years, we have been working on numeracy films explaining key concepts starring Lake High students. These films are in the final editing process and will be accessible to students shortly. There are just under 50 films and we include a link to one below:
Our Year 7 and Year 8 students will start participating in the 2019 Numeracy Program next week. On a fortnightly basis, students will complete a range of numeracy challenges and activities.
I encourage students in Year 12 to purchase past papers for $15 at the front office to help them prepare for the Trail and HSC exams.
The Mathematics competition is on again this year on the 1st August and costs $6.50 paid at the front office.

THE SWIMMING CARNIVAL
The swimming carnival was held on Tuesday the 12th of February and what an outstanding day it was!
All students that attended on the day were a reflection of the outstanding students we have at Lake Illawarra High School. The general vibe was exceedingly positive and all students had a level of participation at some point throughout the day.
The swim events were a highlight, but on offer was also a dunk tank, giant jenga, giant connect four, volleyball, an icee van and much more. Lake Illawarra High School has an excellent reputation for its comradery and positive relationships with students and their families. This was clearly evident on the day and the whole school community had an outstanding day.
