Team Performance Books Semifinal

After going through the round robin stage of the Graeme Wood Shield 20/20 Cricket Competition undefeated, Mazenod hosted Northam Senior High School in the quarterfinal.

Captain Julian Di Renzo maintained his form at the coin toss, winning it again and elected to bat first.  Once again, Jayden Wood and Ben Mance got the team off to another good start, scoring 33 and 23 respectively. Before Julian Di Renzo put on 23 and Regan Hill scored 38, which included three huge sixes! The solid batting helped the team to reach a very impressive total of 4-156 after the 20 overs.

The team took to the field enthusiastically and the bowlers put good pressure on Northam’s batsman from the start. Northam never really got going and were bowled out in the 20th over for 54. It was an excellent performance by all bowlers, with Jack Giancono finishing with 3/8 off four overs, Mitch Massam 2/3 off four overs and Ben Mance finished with 2/0 from his one over.

The comfortable win booked Mazenod a place in the semi-final. The ‘Finals Day’ is scheduled for Wednesday 27 March at Britannia Reserve, Leederville. The semi-final will start at 9:00am and if successful, the boys will play the Grand Final that afternoon, starting at approximately 12:30pm.

Good luck to the team!

Annual Swim Meet

Last Friday 15 March the Mazenod College swim team travelled to St Brigid’s College to participate in the annual swim meet. The swim meet gives the swimmers an opportunity to have a good hit out prior to the ACC B Division Carnival which is next Tuesday 26 March. The boys swam well and the team is looking for a strong result in the ACC Carnival to get back up to the A Division. A big thank you to St Brigid’s College for hosting the carnival and to the staff from both Colleges for giving up their time to officiate on the day!

Congratulations to Joshua Pendal (Year 12) who is the 2019 ACC Swimming Captain!

Joshua has been an exceptional swimmer for the College since Year 7.

Next week the 2019 ACC College Swimming Team will compete in the ACC B Division Carnival at HBF Stadium. The team has been training hard over the past five weeks and look strong to make a push to get back into the A Division thanks to the guidance and coaching of Mr Mallon and Mr Verran.

Ready, Steady, Run!

The “150” Club running group is open to all students, teachers and parents. Runners of all levels of fitness are invited to join staff every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 7:20am for a run, departing from the gym entry.

There are beginner, intermediate and advanced courses (distances) to cater for all levels of ability, and each day students will record the distance they have run on their log sheet with the aim to reach 150 km (or any goal they set) by the end of the year.

We aim to provide an opportunity for all students to develop healthy lifestyles and improve fitness levels, and it is a great time of year to be up early going for a run in Lesmurdie!

Due to the fact that part of the running courses are off school grounds, students are required to print off and fill in the permission slip attached to this Newsletter, before commencing their program. Copies are also available for students to collect in the gym foyer.
