It was a privilege for all when Monti Boori Pryor came to St. Peter’s College as a Library/English visiting author incursion on Thursday 13 September. It was RUOK day but Monty was a perfect addition to the activities. He had the 150 year 7 students on each campus falling off their seats with laughter as he told stories from his book, My Girrgundji about the antics of a little green frog and Monty’s family of three brothers and seven sisters growing up in northern Queensland.
When Boori speaks about his experiences and his books he uses his skill as a storyteller to touch on issues of significance for all ages. He talks about healing the past and creating positive visions for the future; issues of finding strength within to deal with the challenges from without; survival, optimism and finding a basis for mutual, and self, respect. He will also make you laugh so much your sides will ache.
Monty’s other books, written with Mem McDonald include Maybe Tomorrow, The Binna Binna Man, Njunjul, The Sun and Flytrap which should all be available from the library.
