A Lightness of Spirit is the Measure of Happiness
Year 9 Visual Arts students from both East and West Campus travelled to the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) for an immersive experience at A Lightness of Spirit is the Measure of Happiness Exhibition. The exhibition is made up of works from 13 Indigenous artists which focus on community and humour in contemporary Aboriginal life. The artists used a variety of media to bring together perspectives from across the country in an exploration of the relations between art, life and the everyday.
Students closely examined the large scale installation work of Tiger Yaltangki entitled TIGERLAND 2018 that offers the audience real insight into Yaltangki’s everyday life, the things that inspire him and how he sees the world. Students then worked collaboratively to create a large scale artwork in response to the various themes of popular culture taking inspiration from their everyday life. They were challenged to use only images and no text to represent aspects of film, television, music and computer games and, other aspects of their life that matter to them the most such as home, family and friends.
The students were excited to experience contemporary Aboriginal artwork and all engaged enthusiastically in the guided tour and the practical aspects of creating an artwork within an art gallery setting. The collaborative works will be on display at the annual St. Peter’s College Art & Technology Exhibition opening at West Campus on Monday 15 October 2018 and at East Campus on Monday 29 October 2018.

GRATITUDE CONCERT in the COURTYARD
One of the best aspects of our vibrant campus, is that each day there are opportunities for us to be inspired by each other and to show gratitude for our learning community.
This sense of vibrancy and community was none the more evident than this Wednesday at lunchtime. Over 350 students gathered in the Coffey Courtyard to watch our incredibly talented VET Music students perform. This concert formed the fourth in a series of concerts held in recent weeks. Not only did it provide our VET students with a live audience and performance space to help to develop their skills, it created an opportunity for all of us to come together and reconnect with each other. No phones. No ear phones. Sitting together in the sunshine, chatting, laughing, appreciative and present.
Wednesday's concert also presented our 2018 College Captains with the forum to express their gratitude to students and staff. As music played, our Captains walked around engaging in conversations with students and staff, expressing their thanks to each of them for their fantastic participation in Footy Colours Day and cheers for another fun and productive term. The sharing of a sweet treat was both kind and yummy.
Thank you to Mr Wallwork and our talented VET Music students for sharing your creativity and talent with us all. Thank you too to our 2018 College Captains for your innovation and leadership.

Performing Arts taking off
On Monday this week we had a wonderful performance night put on by our Year 12 VCE Dance/Drama/Music and VET Music Industry students. This was in preparation for their end of year examinations. Every performer was exceptional in the way in which they engaged their audience, they really took us on a ride through numerous genre and styles throughout the 90 minute evening. A huge congratulations and good luck to all of our Year 12's as they move closer toward their end of your performance exams. Special mention to our wonderful teachers in the Performing Arts who make all of this possible with their hard work and commitment.
