Social Justice People

During Term 3, our College fundraising and awareness focus is directed to St Vincent de Paul. We always in a Catholic school support Catholic organisations first and foremost. The St Vincent de Paul Society is one of the more visible and active Catholic organisations in Australia with more than 60,000 members and volunteers, who work hard to assist people in need and combat social injustice across Australia.

On Tuesday 18 September , the students below were selected to represent St Peter’s College at a mini-Vinnies cluster gathering at St Francis Xavier College, Beaconsfield. Our students learnt more about the person St Vincent de Paul, the organisation and their good works and brainstormed ideas with students from nearby Catholic schools as to how they can set up a flourishing mini – Vinnies group in our schools and Colleges.

The students learnt among many things that coming up on Thursday 27 September is the Feast day of St. Vincent de Paul.  That Vincent was born in France in the 16th century to peasant parents and that he studied theology and became ordained around the age of 20. He was renowned for his compassion, humility and generosity.

The following students from across both of our campuses, who brilliantly represented St. Peter’s College were:

  1. Tayani Barrett
  2. Carmela Beloso
  3. Ayra Dy
  4. Mikaela Lafaber
  5. Giovanna Lorenzin

Social Justice Sunday

We celebrate Social Justice on Sunday 29 September. This year’s Social Justice Sunday Statement is titled: ‘A Place to Call Home: Making a home for everyone in our land’. The Statement reflects the deep concern of Australia’s Bishops at the growing problem of homelessness and insecure housing in Australian society. For further details about the Social Justice Sunday Statement, visit the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council website:

International Day of Peace (September 21)

Let’s say the prayer of Saint Francis…

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon:

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope

where there is darkness, light

where there is sadness, joy

O divine Master,

grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood, as to understand;

to be loved, as to love;

for it is in giving that we receive,

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.

Amen.
