From our Principal

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

As I begin this piece, my mind reflects back on the wonderful array of events that have enriched the learning experiences of our students over the past term. This has included: High school Musical: Our College Musical, countless SIS events, Futures Expo, Solomon Islands Trivia Night, visitations from Wako Kokusai in Japan and College Magenta in New Caledonia, Science Week, Social Justice Camp, Book Week, RUOK day, Student Leadership days, countless excursions, achieve learning in the classroom, Student elections. It has been a very stimulating learning environment to be part of and I take this opportunity to thank both staff and students for their contributions to this dynamic learning environment.

Japan Trip Departs

Seven students and two staff members departed for Japan last Friday evening on a cultural immersion experience. On this trip students will experience many of the cultural and historical features of Japan. A highlight will be the visits to our two sister schools, Wako Kokusai and Sapporo Seishu High School. Engaging in Japanese school life and staying in Host family arrangements will ensure students have a lived experience of both the Japanese culture and language. We look forward to hearing of their experiences upon their return.

House Captains 2019

This week our student leadership process has led to the appointment of house captains for 2019. The students holding these positions will have shown strong leadership potential or evidenced leadership throughout their years in their respective houses. Students appointed to House captain have an obligation to inspire others within their house to engage in house activities and build a sense of community and engagement within their house. As such these appointments are critical. I congratulate the following students on their appointment.

Building Update

Three projects are currently in the planning or development phase.

Landscaping Project

Currently our landscaping project on the Clyde North (East) campus is progressing steadily with the amphitheatre and piazza area really starting to take shape. This is a significant project which will provide opportunities for the Clyde North campus to come together in a central meeting point. The ability to access all areas of the school will also be facilitated.

Stage 6A – Food/Hospitality/Drama/Dance/Music – Clyde North Campus

The tender process is nearing completion with a build expected to commence in the next six weeks.

Stage 1A – Arts Precinct – Cranbourne Campus

The drawings have been finalised with a build expected in the new year. This is the launch of our exciting master plan for the Cranbourne Campus. Please note this will also incorporate aspects of our Traffic Management Master Plan and will impact on current traffic flow.

New Enrolment Process – for those seeking enrolment in Year 7 2020 and beyond

Commencing next term each family of a Year 7, 2020 student will be required to have a formal interview with a member of the St. Peter’s College Leadership Team. The rationale for this includes:

  • Assisting the transition process for the student
  • Providing opportunities for dialogue around college expectations
  • Providing opportunities for parents to clarify aspects of the enrolment and/or transition process
  • Provide opportunities for parents to share in the understanding of the college vision and mission

This process will be facilitated by Wendy Height the College registrar.

Enjoy the holiday ahead if you are getting one.  I hope your football team wins, as long as your team is Richmond. Go Tiges!
