Library

Farewell

As my time at Buninyong P.S. comes to a close I would like to take the time to thank everyone I have been involved with.

I have been involved with the school since 1992 when my children started here.  I volunteered as a parent helper reading and assisting on excursions.  When the Department brought in CASES in the office, I was asked if I could help with answering the phone while the Principal and Business Manager went off to training.  This progressed to assisting with the newsletter and other small tasks.  I also volunteered in the Library.  There was a computer system but it was MS-Dos and you got the information necessary for cataloguing from a Microfiche.  As I knew how microfiche worked, I studied a book found it on the microfiche and was then able to assist with the cataloguing.  From there I was fortunate to obtain a part-time position in the office and still volunteered in the Library.  I went on to become full-time but still had time in the Library, which became a passion of mine.

Over the past 25 years, I have spent more and more time in the Library, brightening it up, finding items for display.  One thing I feel has brightened it up is finding the coloured spine labels, which makes it so much easier to find books out of their area.  The rocker chairs have proved extremely popular with the children and there is always a race to see who can get one.

I have run two Book Fairs each year and the commission from them has enabled me to purchase more books for the library.  I also run six Book Clubs each year and again the commission received enables more books.

I would like to thank the school community for all the support given to the Library, especially during the Book Fairs, which the children love.  They are eager to check out the books and to write their wish lists to take home in the hope that Mum or Dad will buy them for them.  The Book Clubs are also very well supported and for that, I thank you again.  A big thank you to those parents who helped with the book covering it has been greatly appreciated.

To the teachers thank you for making my time at Buninyong so enjoyable.  I have taken great pleasure in being able to obtain any books you have requested.  Many staff changes have taken place over the years I have been at the school and I have worked with four Principals.  Thanks to the teachers, the school has become the “best” in Ballarat and I believe it will continue to be better and better.

I have seen great changes at Buninyong.  Where the BER building is was the oval where school sports were held.  I could go on and on about the changes but perhaps It’s better that I sit at home and write down everything that has happened here during my time (it would make for interesting reading I feel).

I won’t vanish off the face of the earth as I have promised Kim Dargaville that I will always be available to help her whenever she needs me.  Kim has a lot of learning to do and I want to make it as easy for her as possible.  Many children have asked me to pop in and see them from time to time

While I am sad to leave I feel it is time to give my family and myself more time and while I don’t have any major plans I will be doing a little travelling.

I will see you around so keep an eye out for me. - Kath
