Update from the Year Prep Community

This week in the Prep Community we have been learning about bullying.

We watched 'The Meanest Girl in Second Grade.' In the story Zoe displayed bullying behaviours towards Geoffrey. She yelled at him, she was cruel to him and she said yucky words to him everyday.

Geoffrey was very brave and he taught us to walk away, ignore people and tell someone you trust about the bullies.

In the end Zoe stopped and said sorry to Geoffrey and her friends.

We have learnt that bullying is when someone does unkind things to others over and over again.

EXCEL: Wellbeing for learning in Catholic school communities

What is it? a guide that explores in detail the nature and importance of wellbeing and how it is enacted in Catholic schools.

It articulates the importance of wellbeing to children and young people’s spiritual, cognitive, physical, emotional and social growth.

For the next few weeks I will include some information about each of the dimensions that make up EXCEL.

The first dimension is ENABLE. The goal for this dimension is to provide environments for learners and their communities that are safe, inclusive and respectful.

The essential elements for this dimension are:

- The school community promotes inclusivity and reflects a culture of hope, faith and belonging for students, staff, families and the broader community

- Students feel, and are, valued, safe, affirmed and enabled to participate in school and life

- Leaders, staff and families work collaboratively to create and strengthen safe, child-friendly environments for learning

- Justice, equity and respect are actively promoted and evident in school policy and practice.
