Pastoral Care News

And just like that term 2 has come to an end…………I am certain students and staff alike are looking forward to a chance to relax and enjoy some downtime; without the pressure of classes and timelines.

As a school community, we have undertaken some mammoth tasks during the first half of 2019. From our sporting achievements, our creative art showcases, our academic and learning commitments, as well as our charity and community work: students and staff have worked tirelessly both during school and as an extra curriculum activity. Marian is a community of high achievers, in many different areas.

Planning is well underway for next term with The Community Action Team nominating Needy Paws as their charity/ community service of focus for the term. This activity aligns with two of the five domains of our MCC Vision, Stewardship and Care and although we would all love to be foster carers the logistics and reality do not allow this, so practical support collecting dry/ canned food, bedding, toys and raising funds for medical expenses will be the next best thing. We hope to establish a sustainable system; like our water bottle program, so that the support can continue well beyond the end of next term. We also hope to promote the “Adopt don’t shop” campaign and encourage responsible ownership.

Friday 26th July, the Year 11 Wellbeing Committee will be hosting a range of activities during 5th period to acknowledge and celebrate “Stress Down Day”. All students have been emailed a registration form so that they can nominate their favourite activity and are encourage to do so as soon as possible due to limited numbers for some activities. Student (and staff) can nominate to take part in Drumbeat, mindfulness/ meditation, Mr Mason’s games group and a mini Olympics. This activity allows students to form a team (up to 6 people) and take part in old favourites like tunnel ball, a limbo comp, obstacle course and three-legged races, just to name but a few.

During lunchtime they will also host a sausage sizzle and cake/bake stall with all funds raised going to our local support agency “Griffith Suicide Prevention & Support Service”. We hope everyone will support the day, have some fun and reduce their stress levels.

We have CAREVAN cooking Wednesday 24th July so volunteers old and new are welcome to join us in the TAS kitchen lunch and/or recess; no experience necessary. We are expecting knitting group shall start week two and remember this also provides a quite space for those who wish to colour in, draw or have some “time out” to recharge during lunch. Please don’t forget our Chapel is also available for those who wish to access a quiet, reflective area or wish to remember or pray for someone special.

Finally, for those who are travelling I hope you all have a safe journey and to each and every one, I wish you all a wonderful, well deserved break and look forward to what the new term shall bring.
