Year 11 News

Term 2 has been an extremely busy term for Year 11. They have settled into their senior studies and the majority of students have now completed two major assessments in all their subjects. On the whole students have been great at following assessment protocol and are communicating well with their teachers.

The Well-Being committee have started to take some positive steps to enhancing the mental health of their fellow students. On June 4 they attended the Youth Mental Health Forum in Wagga Wagga. They were accompanied by our Pastoral worker Sue Hone, our counsellor Karen Surian and myself. This forum brought together students from all over the Riverina to discuss issues linked to youth mental health that they saw as important. It was organised by Headspace and facilitated by Burn Bright. The students gained a lot of insight and some strategies to bring back to MCC. They are now working towards running our Stress Down Day in week one of next term and are very busy organising activities for their fellow students.

On June 18 all Year 11 attended the Leeton Careers expo. This was a great opportunity to collect information and talk to representatives from various tertiary institutions, ADF and numerous large employers from around the Riverina. Many students gained valuable information (and numerous pens and handballs!) on this day. A massive thanks to Mrs Farrugia for organising this day for us.

To finish the term on a high the group participated in their Community day on Thursday July 4. We were lucky enough to have Chris Doyle from Karis Ministries come to share some of his stories, music and energy. The students were left with the messages to be grateful for what they had, to realise that they needed to strive for the things they wanted and to be supportive of each other to get the most out of life. They are a truly wonderful group of young people and were very enthusiastic in their participation.

Some students are participating in exciting initiatives over the holiday break. Nayani Navaneethan, Julia Forner and Darian Le Cornu are participating in the National Leadership Camp and Sam Macrae will be off to join the Youth Parliament. We wish them well.

And finally I would like to offer our very best wishes to those students whose journey at MCC has come to a close. Some students have opted to leave school and continue with their apprenticeships full-time. We wish them well and they will be missed.

A happy and safe holiday to all.
