Principal News

Dear Aboriginal people: the hour has come for you to take on new courage and new hope. You are called to remember the past, to be faithful to your worthy traditions, and to adapt your living culture whenever this is required by your own needs and those of your fellow man. Above all you are called to open your hearts ever more to the consoling, purifying and uplifting message of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died so that we might all have life, and have it to the full.

From Pope John Paul II 's address to Indigenous Australians at Blatherskyte Park, Alice Springs, 29 November 1986.

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Today Marian Catholic College celebrates the commencement of NAIDOC Week. This year’s theme is Voice. Treaty. Truth.-let’s work together for a shared future. Our College welcomes our guests from CEDWW Luke Wighton and Kelly Humphrey. This year we are joined Jayde Warde

Jayde Warde is a Wiradjuri descendant born and raised on Gadigal Country in Sydney. Her role is State Manager Policy and Programs at Catholic Schools NSW (CSNSW). She is responsible for the provision and support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs and policies.

She provides advice to CSNSW, cross-sectoral staff and Government stakeholders relevant to their engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education.

As an Aboriginal educator, she is committed to making a difference in the lives of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled in NSW Catholic Schools.   The College welcomed St Patrick Year 3 classes who performed an aboriginal song for us. Our students were involved in various parts of the assembly and it was a joyous celebration of this important occasion. Director of Mission Mr Heath Nevillle  has more details about the assembly on his page of this newsletter.

This will be the final College Newsletter for this term so please accept my thanks for your support in the past ten weeks. I wish all students and staff a restful break. Stay safe and warm!

Term three commences for students on Tuesday 23 July. Staff will return on the 22nd July and will be working on our three year plan of embedding deeper learning of how practical evidence-driven analysis of our student data can inform and improve our teaching and hence improve student learning outcomes. This a Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga initiative  and all schools are participating in some way within their local context.

 Peace and Best wishes
