Welcome to our Italian Exchange Group

A big warm welcome to our beautiful Italian Exchange group from POLO Scieintifico Statale Mattioli, Vasto, Italy. This year we have 24 students accompanied by our wonderful friend, Exchange Coordinator,  Ms Carla Orsati and teacher, Ms Marilena Sarchione. We hope that the group enjoys and engages in  many new experiences during their 3 weeks in Western Australia. Our students are all looking forward to speaking Italian and sharing lessons with the group.

Yesterday, many of our students were saying at lunchtime “The Italians are so lovely!”

The Italian Exchange Group will be participating in many Aussie adventures and experiences! Lesson include many opportunities with our students to practice Italian, boomerang making, Aussie cooking, Australian History, surfing and art. The excursions include going to Fremantle, Lake Vasto, Perth Mint, Caversham Wildlife Park,  AQWA and a meeting with the Deputy Lord Mayor to welcome our visitors from Perth’s sister city, Vasto.

Thank you to our host families for your generosity and time. For our exchange program, this is the most valuable of experiences. Living with members of our local community allows us to ask questions about each other’s culture, learn about each other’s traditions, customs at home, share food over at a dinner and practice speaking in another language. This is truly the beginning of life-long friendships and meaningful learning.

A big thank you, grazie mille, mille to Ms Carmelina Grassi for all her hard work and endless effort in co-ordinating this exchange. In addition, many thanks to Ms Glen James for her support and care in ensuring that all will run smoothly.

It has been ten years since our relationship with POLO Scieintifico Statale Mattioli commenced and we look forward to continuing this wonderful exchange programme in future years.

Languages Week 2017

in Languages Week 2017 we engaged each year level in something special to celebrate the gift of languages and cultures that make our community an exciting place to live.

Morning prayers were in different languages and homeroom quizzes and videos had an international theme. Year Sevens participated in a “Tour de France” (or Tour de Netball Courts on scooters); the Year Eights played a range of language based games with a taster from France, Italy or Japan; The Year Nines tested their knowledge of France, Japan and Italy in a mighty Kahoots Quiz Game followed by a mini ice-cream from Italy, the Year Tens pitched their skills against each other in traditional games from France, Italy and Japan and tasted Italian ice-cream; The Year 11s and 12s shared picnics consisting of local cuisine whilst continuing their studies.

Heartfelt appreciation to the Language Team for contributing so much towards the success, enjoyment and engagement of all our students. Well done! Bravo! Bel lavoro! Yoku dekimashita!

To thank all the staff at John XXIII College for their continued support of second language learning and our exchange program we celebrated at recess with a taste of France, Italy and Japan.
