Director of Pastoral Care

It has been another eventful few weeks for the Pastoral team with numerous events taking place designed to enhance the well-being of our students, while offering them opportunities to develop skills and build confidence.
I would like to welcome Mr James Moore to our team as the Yr 11 Pastoral Coordinator while Mrs Kelly Centofanti is on maternity leave.
Riding for Disabled
Next week volunteers from Year 11 will be beginning the Riding for the Disabled program. This program occurs every Wednesday from 9:30am -11am and allows students to assist disabled children while they ride and interact with horses. This program allows our Year 11’s to develop their leadership and empathy skills while making a contribution to both the Griffith and Marian Community.
Academic Pastoral Care and Year Meetings
Each week the Pastoral team interacts with their cohort in the form of either the Academic Pastoral Care program or through year meetings. Over the past two weeks the teams have worked on resilience building, NAPLAN preparation and time management skills. The students are able to undertake short activities designed for them to recognise the importance of these skills in both the College and in a broader context. It also allows for students to develop ways of dealing with the rigours of College work expectations and social interactions.
Yr 11 support evening
On Thursday Evening the Yr 11 support evening took place in the Library. The topics covered were:
- Assessment and assessment feedback
- Note taking or note making, tips on how to study effectively
- The importance of resilience
These topics are all extremely relevant to our students undertaking the Preliminary course, regardless of their future career choices. We had a impressive turn out and I encourage all senior students to take advantage of these nights each term.
The Pastoral team is looking forward to another eventful two weeks, with multiple activities designed to support the young people at MCC
