MCKINNON ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

The 2018 McKinnon Athletics Carnival is going to be held at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve on Thursday 2 August.

All students are expected to meet at the Athletics Track at 8:30am for a roll call with their Form Teacher. Students will then need to congregate with their House for the commencement of the Carnival starting with the fashion parade. Don't forget to get your outfits/costumes planned and compete in as many events as possible to win points for your House.

Students will be dismissed from the track at approximately 3:00pm.  In the event of inclement weather Mrs Binnion may dismiss students earlier in the day.

Good luck to all students and may the best House win!

LUNCHTIME SPORT - TERM 2

Term 2 has been a busy term of lunchtime sport with the Scorpion Futsal Competition taking place for all year levels.

Thanks to all of the students who participated with over 150 students taking part across all year levels every Monday and Wednesday.

Senior Champions

Stefan Simic and his team which consisted of Liston Diaz, Billy Zontanos, Tom Johnston, Seth Donovan and Liam Atchison

Intermediate Champions

Levi Scholz and his team consisting of Sam Ghobrial, Oliver Lopez, Matthew Sagiadelis and Ishan Malakar.

Year 8 Champions

Leo Kotsandis and his team consisting of Jai Curren-Nicholls, Eidan Rozenberg, Zane Rogers, Anthony Vassiliou and Felix Dover.

Year 7 Champions

Michael Guerra and his team consisting of Harvey Walker, Henry Price, Ron Golombick, Lucas Boglis and Thivi Salwathura.

The annual staff vs staff game also took place in what was an entertaining affair. Skills were a little rusty and Mr Jhoomun lived up to his firey reputation, hurling abuse at every player (opposition and team mate) on the court.

An all-star team picked from this game to take on Stefan Simic and his senior champion team. Despite holding out courageously in the first half, the flood gates opened in the second half as they went on to be 6-2 winners.

CRICKET VICTORIA - GIRLS LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME

On Monday 23 July, we were chosen to go on an excursion to Federation University, Ballarat to participate in a Girls Leadership and Cricket workshop held by Cricket Victoria. We completed an online course beforehand and this was recapped on the day. At the start of the day we were assigned into groups that focused on our mental state, getting a mentor and the way we deal with things.

After a break Talia was introduced to Molly Strano, a Victorian and Australian cricketer where she asked questions to help her out with her future. Molly Strano, Daniela Di Toro (Australian wheelchair tennis player) and Ann Mitchell (Women’s Cricket Legend) talked to the many girls attending, sharing their experiences and answering multiple questions from the group.  This was shortly followed by a cricket coaching session where we had the option of participating in a beginner or a master class.

HERE ARE THE GIRLS REFLECTIONS ON THE DAY:

My highlight was the discussion panel with Molly, Danielle and Ann. We got to ask questions and they told us all about their experiences as a leader. It was really fun.

Elly Booth

I loved how this program made me take a step back and think of all the mental aspects of cricket. We focused on our good habits and habits we can incorporate into our lives.

Casandra Joseph

Overall, I really enjoyed this experience because it really made me think about who I am. My favourite part was the panel because I really liked listening to the three sporting legends leadership ways.

Charis Koletsas

It was such an honour to go and experience a leadership forum. I really enjoyed it and my favourite parts were the cricket activities and learning about how everything that the three panelists experienced enabled them to get to where they are today.

Zoe Dalidakis

Overall, the girls leadership program was an amazing experience and I was honoured to be chosen. One of my favourite parts was the panel. We got to meet Molly Strano, Ann Mitchell and Daniela Di Toro. All three answered interesting questions and were very inspiring. I really enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to all girls.

Amy Wilkins

My highlight was definitely being introduced to Molly Strano. I got an insight and help into my struggles with balancing my sport, music, school and social life. I also really enjoyed the experienced cricket session.

Thank you to Mrs Hooper for her organization and support and for driving the bus in gale force winds to allowed us the opportunity to experience the day.
