CHANCE AND PROBABILITY

As part of the Year 7 Maths Curriculum, our Year 7 students have been learning about chance and probability.

They have worked in pairs or small groups to create a spinner or dice, and then used these to record outcomes. This data was then tabulated, graphed and analyzed then the difference between theoretical probability and experimental outcomes was discussed. Most students made a fantastic effort and we have seen many colorful and innovative pieces of work created.

Here are a few photos and comments from the students.

In the past few weeks we have been doing some work on chance and probability. The first thing we did was learn the theory side of probability then we applied it in a great project where we designed and built our own dice or spinners. It was a great project and was a lot of fun.

Our task in the probability project was to create either a spinner or die to present. It was a lot of fun to plan with our partner. Once we had finished hacking away at paper and cardboard and completed our masterpieces, we tested it by spinning or rolling it 10 then 100 times. This project was a blast of fun and a great way to secure our knowledge.

In the last weeks of Term 2, we created a die for out probability and chance unit. During the first two classes we designed, created and finished our masterpieces. We were allowed to work in pairs. After we completed our dice we conducted tests to check if the creation was fair or unfair. This information was recorded and graphed. I thoroughly enjoyed the probability unit as it involved design and creativity. This task also improved my thoughts on probability and made this maths topic really clear inside my head. I hope we can do projects like this for every maths unit!
