OLD MCKINNON FOOTBALL CLUB UPDATE
2018 is the second season McKinnon has fielded a team in the Victorian Amateur Football Association, and so far it has been an extremely successful one.
The boys are currently sitting on top of the ladder with 11 wins from their 12 matches, with a pretty healthy percentage of 314.
On the weekend the boys defeated the second placed Penleigh and Essendon Grammar by 11 goals to create a 2 win lead in the race for top spot.
The competition is Under 19s and as such a large cohort of former McKinnon students are involved in the team, including Jack Strangio, Lachie Crofts, Nicko Farantouris and Matthew Parkinson.
A large number of last year’s inaugural Under 19 team are now key members of the affiliated Glen Eira FC Seniors and Reserves sides, giving McKinnon a fantastic representation in one of our local community clubs.
A large part of this year’s Under 19 success has been on the back of the 14 current Year 12 students who have participated in the side throughout the season. Current Year 12 students Bobby Tang, Hayden Bass, Jack Richardson, Jesse Scholz and Callum Drenth have all played significant roles in the side that is sitting on top of the ladder.
There are four matches left in the home and away season, before the boys undertake a finals series.
We wish them luck for the rest of the season.
