YEAR 7 BOOK BUYING EVENT

On Monday 4 March Year 7 students will be given a chance to select a book(s) for the school library.  Benn’s books of Bentleigh will bring out a wide selection of new releases and other popular titles to choose from. This is a popular event with students and helps the library stock up with what’s popular.

CHANGES AT THE ENTRY TO THE LIBRARY

When students enter the library they will notice in front of them the magazine collection where the reference section used to be.  The chrome book loans desk is also located to the right (please note carefully the borrowing/returning times for chrome books). The reference section has moved to where the magazines used to be.

MAGAZINE LOANS

The loan period for magazines has been increased from overnight to a week. Students are encouraged to come, browse and borrow from the magazines on display.

A FEW ARTICLES ON THE VALUE OF READING!

It’s been a big week for newspaper articles on reading and libraries.

“Turning over a new leaf on quiet time”

The Age of 11/2/2019 reported on the Reading Society’s monthly silent reading party.  Read what you like but silence is strictly enforced! The Facebook group meets monthly in parks for a 2 hour reading session (talking allowed in coffee break in the middle).  Apparently silent reading groups are popping up around the world!

Sydney School principal's message to parents on reading

A Sydney principal has expressed alarm at the reading habits of many young people in an article “Principal: ‘Quality lost on young readers’”.
