Year 10 Retreat

On Monday 11 March the Year 10 cohort had their Retreat Day. The Retreat Day was run by the Youth Mission Team and the focus of the day was leadership. The students participated in a range of dynamic activities that highlighted the importance of the integrity of each person and how each one of us is called to servant leadership. Time was spent examining different styles of leadership and exploring the leadership qualities of Jesus. Students were encouraged to recognise their own leadership potential and use it for the good of serving others as Jesus did.

Some student reflections:

It inspired me to be a better person and recognise God’s presence in my life.

It taught me that I must put effort into my relationship with God if I want anything out of it and to be kind to everyone, regardless of appearance.

The retreat we did today inspired me in a way that made me feel more open/confident and taught me to be more open and trusting to others, to myself and to God

I was inspired to not be afraid of who I am and accept others for who they are.

I was inspired by the personal stories to be more accepting of others and to develop my relationship with Jesus further.

Mock Trials

Round 1 of the 2019 Law Society of Western Australia Mock Trial Competition commenced on Wednesday night at the Supreme Court. Our team went up against Leeming SHS - appearing for the Prosecution in a criminal matter involving grievous bodily harm. The team persuasively argued that the accused had not acted in self-defence - successfully discharging its burden of proof, beyond reasonable doubt.

As we have a number of new team members this year, it was an invaluable learning experience for them to watch our seasoned Year 12 team put forward their case. There is a lot of preparation involved in the lead up to the trial, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students who, despite their busy schedules, enthusiastically attended lunchtime meetings. I would also like to thank friends and family who came along on the night to offer support.

Our Round 1 Team included:

  • Barrister 1: Charlie Richards
  • Barrister 2: Rory Hewson
  • Solicitor: Xavier Carr
  • Witness 1: Cullen Binet
  • Witness 2:  Liam Hurley
  • Court Orderly:  Toby Morgan
  • Reserve: Sam Falzun, Ethan Pasch, Reuben Patchett, Sophie Manners, Ashleigh Smith, Jasmin Collins, Harper Turtle, Mia Fracaro, Jack Court & James Langton.

Congratulations to our 2019 Mock Trial team on the win – and best wishes for future rounds.
