Magis report

Next Thursday, March 12 will see our first Magis Academic Seminar Breakfast for 2020.  2019 Debating and Public Speaking champions Rory Hewson and Charlie Richards will deliver keynote addresses on debating techniques, and there will also be meetings between coaches, managers and interschool debating teams. This is a compulsory free event for all interschool  debaters from Yeas 7 to 12 and students have received nomination flyers which need to be returned immediately.  Preparation sessions begin this week on Monday or Tuesday mornings or Monday afternoons, or by arrangement with coaches or managers.  The first debates are next Tuesday, 17 March at Christchurch. Please note the new earlier times this year: Novices (Years 7/8) begin at 5:15pm, Juniors (Year 9/10) at 6:15pm and Seniors (11/12) at 7:15pm. All debaters must be at the venue 15 minutes before starting time, or 75 minutes in the case of impromptu debates.  A full John XXIII College Debating Handbook has now been distributed.

There are many gifted and talented program opportunities offered by the College, and many more that we will assist students to participate in if they wish.  Attached with this newsletter is a second set of such opportunities and interested students are invited to come to the Magis office or email me for further details.  Also attached with this newsletter are the Week 5 Magis memo and the Debating seminar breakfast form.
