Coronavirus (COVID-2019) update

During the week we distributed a communication related to the Coronavirus and we will continue to keep our communities updated on any developments from the Department of Health and the three educational sectors. The College will endeavor to provide a calm and considered approach to this matter. As always, we are very appreciative of the cooperation and support of our families.

John XXIII College Open Day

Preparations are underway for our annual Open Day which is always a wonderful event at the College. We look forward to meeting with current and prospective families on Saturday morning. One of the highlights is watching our students interact with visitors to the College. Invariably, we receive positive feedback on the calibre of our students and staff and the obvious pride they have in the school.

Last weekend’s Gospel told the story of Jesus’ temptations in the desert. The desert is where monks and mystics have gone throughout the ages to encounter themselves and meet God. The first temptation is to make bread from stones; then to jump miraculously from the temple-top and finally to bow down in worship to be rewarded with the riches of the world. At the weekend I heard a brilliant homily from Fr Ross Jones SJ who likened these temptations to some modern leadership styles of false promises, tricks and self-interest.

Fortunately, we have another model. Jumping to the end of Lent on Holy Thursday, Jesus demonstrated his style of leadership when he washed the feet of his disciples. It is a leadership of service and looking out for others. I think this kind of leadership is very evident at our Open Day and exhibited by our students, staff and families.
