Monash Champions
Last week, our 19 Monash Champions from Years 9 and 10 went to Monash University to present their projects to action a change in our school or community. These have been projects that have been worked on with Monash mentors who have come each week to work with our students over the past four months.
We saw other presentations from schools throughout Victoria and all students were presented with a certificate at the end of each presentation.
I personally thought that our Nazareth presentations were the best – not because I am biased, but because our students dressed with pride in their uniforms and spoke with such confidence and clarity. They conducted themselves beautifully and were a credit to Nazareth. I was immensely proud of what they had achieved and how well they presented their work. It takes courage to get up in a room full of staff and students from other schools, and of course from Monash University, and speak as well as they did.
Four students need a particular mention for being involved in two school activities on the same day and managing to juggle them both with dignity and calm.
Angela Cremona, Sara Kendirjian and Saravina Afaj partook in the SIS Debating finals in Langwarrin in the morning and then raced across to Monash to present in the afternoon. Presenting to two different crowds with two different focuses could have easily rattled them but they rose to the challenge, swapping between the two programs seamlessly. I thank Ms Lani Riverans for supervising the girls and making this juggle a possibility.
Stephanie Papaxanthou was involved in a Work Experience activity – ‘Hands on Health ‘ which was on the other side of the Monash Clayton campus. She raced across (doing a quick change into her uniform) to present and then returned to her Work Experience.
They are all Champions in my eyes! I congratulate the following involved students:
Year 9
Samuel Holden, Emma Eager, Lachlan Murray, Teresa Joseph, Joanna Papaxanthou, Luca Rabak, Michael Dharmawardhana, Ricki Karagaslis, Chloe Boric, Emily Skey
Year 10
Joel George, Peter Swan, Cathy Shi, Angela Cremona, Stephanie Papaxanthou, Sara Kendirjian, Ashley Argical, Kelly Nguyen, Saravina Afaj
Hand on Health
Last week six of our Year 10 students had the opportunity to undergo a two day program to look at different careers in the Health Industry. Originally planned to be held in the Dandenong Hospital, they wound up in the Medical faculty on the grounds of Monash University instead. The initiative that these six students showed in exploring career pathways outside of their scheduled Work Experience week in June was terrific. This group was made up of Simone Nguyen, Tyra Dale, Stephanie Papaxanthou, David Narvaez, Jovana Cubra and Kristy Machuca
VTAC Applications - Year 12 Students
Well done to all those Year 12 students who have made applications to attend Tertiary study for next year.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to the next stage in our students future – whether that be going to University, TAFE , getting an apprenticeship or heading out to the workplace. It is a difficult decision for many but I applaud them for taking the bull by the horns and taking that next step.
A reminder that timely applications close on 30 September. After this time applications can still be made but at an increased cost.
I will be at Nazareth during the first week of the holidays to continue to work with students on all aspects of their applications including SEAS. This will be BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
Please email me on flode@nazareth.vic.edu.au to arrange an appointment. Parents are also welcome.
I wish you all a restful and relaxing break…… ( and maybe even a little sleep in !!)
