Vinnies Winter Sleep Out
The Nazareth College Winter Sleep Out is held annually to raise funds and awareness for the many people in our society who suffer the reality of homelessness.
As per tradition, the night began with warm soup and greeting friends, along with (semi-successfully) pitching of the remaining tents. When all 80 students arrived - rugged up in hoodies and scarves - we were lucky to momentarily escape the numbing weather by gathering into the heated gym, where we participated in the many activities on offer; including the eye opening 'poverty game'.
Warmed up, we then crowded into the Chapel and settled down for a heartfelt service in which we reflected on the plight of the homeless and were reminded of how privileged we are to have a home to return to after sunrise in the morning. Together we sang 'Lean On Me', lead by Mr Brusco and Mr Robert, both on guitar, and recognised the message behind the lyrics; that we should assist others wherever possible while realising that, one day, we might find ourselves in need of a helping hand. Following the inspiring service, we split up and either watched 'School Of Rock' projected on the big screen in the auditorium, messily cooked S'mores on the radiant fire pits, or simply had free time with friends.
Saying goodnight and heading for our tents, a clear sky left us with chilly air. We acknowledged that the cold we would face for the night is the harsh reality for many people who struggle through tougher conditions without the reassurance of a warm shower or bed waiting for them at home.
A massive thank you on behalf of the student attendees towards everyone involved in orchestrating the event. It is safe to say that we have all developed a greater appreciation for the homes we are blessed with, along with sympathy and determination to help those without this fortune.
We raised $1700.00 for St Vincent de Paul.

St Anthony’s Tutoring Program
Throughout this term, various students have been volunteering at St Anthony’s Tutoring Program. Every Tuesday around 10 to 12 students travel in the minibus to St Anthony’s. We are very fortunate to have a new teacher every week volunteering to drive us. It has been such a fantastic experience. Seeing the children's faces light up when we all arrive is so rewarding. We work with students in all year levels, however mainly Grades 5 - 6. Our main role is to motivate them with their classroom homework and assist in any way we can. We really encourage all students to join us in such a fun weekly program. If you would like to come along during Term 4, please see Ms Douglass.
