Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Guardians

Student Leadership

Developing leadership skills and talents is a very important aspect of students’ education at Nazareth. It is critical that the programs we offer students develop within them the potential to be leaders with a strong sense of justice and integrity; and inspire them to act out of the Christian values and ideals that have been nurtured in their time at the College. The model of Leadership evident at Nazareth is one based on service, in which those who aspire to Leadership are willing to use their position to be of assistance to others.

Over the past few weeks we were privileged to work with a group of Year 11 students who had the courage to nominate themselves as Student Leaders for 2020.  These students first had to submit a written application outlining their reasons for nominating for Leadership, deliver a speech to all Year 11 students, address all the students in Years 7 to 12 in their House, make a presentation to staff and then have an individual interview with our Assistant Principal Faith and Outreach, Mr Justin Duckett, and our Co-Director of Wellbeing, Ms Jackie Kol.  Each of these occasions provided the opportunity for students to further develop and enhance their Leadership abilities.

It is my very great pleasure to announce to the College Community our Student Leaders for 2020:

Our College Captains are Emma Xerri and Alyssa Mastromanno

Our Vice Captains are Julia Proctor and Ronan Lobo

Chisholm House Captains:

Talia Giannetti

Willow Griffiths

Knox House Captains:

Shayan Aliaga

Olivia Quintrell

MacKillop House Captains:

Celina El Rayes

Tania Shi

Mannix House Captains:

Daniel White

Rebecca Munyard

McAuley House Captains:

Tijana Jayaram

James Mucha

McCormack House Captains:

We congratulate all these students and thank them for their willingness to take on a Leadership position in the service of our College. Our hope is that their experience as College Leaders will help them become leaders with strong Christian values in their families, their friendship groups, their places of study and work and ultimately in our society.

Father Nathan Rawlins

It was wonderful to welcome back to Nazareth Father Nathan Rawlins, who joined our staff for morning tea earlier this week. Father Nathan graduated from Nazareth College in 2006 and is the first of our past students to be ordained to the Priesthood. Father Nathan was ordained at Saint Patrick’s earlier this month and we are delighted that he will be celebrating our Thursday morning Mass in the Chapel this week.

Enrolments

A reminder to all families that if you have children in Grades 5 or 6 you should have already submitted your enrolment application by this time. We still have a few vacancies in Year 7 for 2020 and 2021, but would encourage any families with children currently in Grades 5 or 6 to submit your application immediately to avoid disappointment.

Term 3 Holidays

On behalf of the College we extend our best wishes to all students and families for a safe and restful holiday. Hopefully students are able to find the right balance between study and revision, and resting and re-energising! We particularly wish our Year 12s well in their Trial Exams and as they prepare for their final weeks of school prior to their final exams.

Classes for this term conclude at 1.00 pm on Thursday this week (prior to our Student Progress Meetings). School resumes on Monday 7 October 2019, which will be a Day 6 on our timetable.
