Library News

This week we farewell our wonderful Library Technician, Ms Joanna Rogers who will be commencing maternity leave. Jo is expecting her second child and we eagerly await the newest addition to her family. We wish her all the best for the safe arrival of the much-anticipated sibling to Sophia.

There are more exciting times ahead in the Resource Centre as the process of refurbishing this very well utilised space gets underway during the mid-year break. The transformation begins with new carpet and paint and will continue throughout the coming months with the addition of new furniture and a revitalised layout. In preparation for this, some areas of the Resource Centre will need to be packed away in the last two weeks of Term 2.

We have both been particularly impressed with the way so many of our Year 7 to 9 students have embraced reading this year and we have proudly noted a 44% increase in borrowing from this time last year. Students have been recording their reading on our My Reading page. See the current tally below.

Reading is a priceless gift; not only do students experience the joy of laughing at the wonderful humour of favourite authors such as Andy Griffiths or Louis Sachar, feel the thrill of the adventure that authors like Robert Muchamore communicate, or empathise with beloved characters in moving tales like Wonder by RJ Palacio, but the benefit to personal literacy is widely recognised. This review posted by Christopher James Truong illustrates these points beautifully!

We have extensive Fiction and Non-Fiction sections in the Resource Centre. We encourage all students to borrow at least one novel to enjoy over the holidays. If students are looking for a novel that is not on our shelves, they can submit a Book Request at the Loans Desk and we will endeavour to purchase this.

During these final two weeks of the term, both Ms Douglass and I will be taking Long Service Leave, travelling to Europe and New York respectively. We will miss our regular visitors whom we chat with daily, and our Wide Reading classes but we are very happy to spend time travelling with our families.
