Learning Assistant Principal's Report

Year 9 – 11 Examinations

Correspondence concerning the upcoming Semester 1 Examinations has been emailed to families and is also available to parents via PAM and students via SIMON.  As noted in the College calendar, the dates for these examinations are as follows:

The correspondence includes the examination timetables and the conditions under which examinations are held. We encourage all parents to read and discuss these with your child(ren) to ensure a smooth examination experience.  Please particularly note that examinations will only be re-scheduled for students with a medically certified illness or a clash of two examinations, and all re-scheduling will take place during the advertised examination period.

Preparations for examinations should already be a regular part of each student’s routine, putting into practise advice provided by Nazareth staff and guests speakers throughout the year.  While teachers set structured homework tasks for ongoing learning, it is important for students to also be continually revising material and skills from earlier in the semester in preparation for the examinations. Students are advised to have a set timetable of study so that each day, independent study of material from previous topics is actively revised (and remember: reading is the least effective form of study!).

GAT: Wednesday 12 June

All Year 11 and 12 students undertaking at least one VCE Unit 3 / 4 subject must sit the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Wednesday June 12 from 10.00am – 1.15pm. This will be held in the College Gym, with preparatory details already provided to students in the 13 May assembly. Students have been advised to maintain their regular travel time to school to ensure they are on-campus well in advance of the starting time, prepared and in a relaxed frame of mind.

Information about what the GAT is and how it affects student Study Scores, along with past papers is available in the GAT pamphlet from the VCAA website.
