Assistant Principal

Patrick Halpin

Assistant Principal

I would like to begin by welcoming everybody back to the new school year.  I hope the first few weeks of the school year have been very successful for everybody.  From walking around and chatting to students, staff and parents, it certainly feels like everybody is happy to be back at school.  There were lots of adventures over the holidays, from what I hear, and we’re all nicely rested and good to go again.

Information Nights

The feedback in relation to the live streaming of the Information Nights has been overwhelmingly positive.  We had some sound difficulties at a couple of the sessions but appreciate your understanding and support as we try to make this new process work for everybody.  We understand that the earlier starting time made it impossible for some parents to attend due to work commitments but hope that, by streaming it via Facebook Live, you were able to access it later on.  If you have any questions, after having watched the videos online, please contact your child’s teacher via Compass.

We are grateful to our very dedicated staff, some of whom remained at school until after 7pm to present their approaches and strategies to you, once again demonstrating our team culture.

New Assembly Schedule

As you know, there is a new assembly schedule in place to ensure that our assemblies are more relevant for the students and to allow each class to demonstrate their learning.  The class items may take the form of whole-class performances (like 6W presented last week), class videos, students speaking about what they have been learning, presentation of projects or other work that the students have been doing, etc.  There is no set format – each class has complete control over what and how they present, which is in line with our school priority to build student voice, agency and leadership.  Please save or print a copy of the schedule for Term 1 so you don’t miss your child’s performance and watch Compass for more information from your child’s teacher.

Drinks on the Green

Thank you to everybody who joined us for Drinks on the Green.  It was great to connect with the Kingswood Community in a more informal setting and get to build our team culture.  Special thanks to the Parent Club who put it all together and ensured that everything was left spick and span afterwards.

Please help us to keep improving by completing our Snapshot Survey.

If you didn’t attend, please scroll straight to the last question and let us know why you couldn’t or didn’t join us and how we can make the event more accessible for parents.

SRC Announcements

Congratulations to the members of this year’s Student Representative Council.  The successful candidates were announced at assembly today and are:

3F – Amber

3H - Jakub

3S – Nathan

3D – Aston

4A – Zara

4C – Sophina

4S – Jack

4T – Nate

5C – Cerin

5R – Ben

5S – Joshua

The SRC play a vital role in the running of our school and this has never been more important than in 2019 as we begin our four year plan to increase student voice, agency and leadership at Kingswood.

To those students who applied but missed out this year, I would like to say congratulations for putting yourself out there and giving it a go.  Your bravery is admirable and I hope you continue to put yourself forward for opportunities now and in the future.  As disappointing as it is when you are not chosen, the process will help you develop your presentation skills and your resilience.  Please remember that you do not need a leadership badge to be a leader.  Continue to get involved in clubs and organisations both within Kingswood and outside the school gates.  You are a community member and your input is valuable.
