Wind chimes by Year Three and Four
The Year 3&4 students have spent approximately 500-600 minutes (5-6 weeks) of lesson time designing and constructing their wind chimes. They needed to focus on learning some key elements of design such as variety, symmetry, balance and monochromatic colour. They were immersed in new skills such as working with magiclay to create tertiary colours and clay beads utilising the unique textures. I think you will agree that their efforts were well rewarded.
ART SHOW AND BOOK FAIR
The Art Show and Book Fair is quickly coming up and will be held in October on Friday 19th 4-8pm and Saturday 20th 1-5pm. The Book Fair will be held in the Library and the Art Show in the Hall. A new addition this year will be some outside vendors proving food and drinks to purchase (savoury and sweet), an art/craft vendor selling wares and the Canteen will be open on the Friday night. Save one of the dates for your family and friends to come and join in the fun.
**Reminder to bring your own 'coffee keep cup' to reduce our waste and improve our environmental responsibility.
ART SHOW FLOWERS BY FAMILIES
I have started receiving some of the flowers that families have made for the Art Show, representing their family's heritage. You should receive your piece of wall sticker by Friday the 7th September after I have personally explained the activity to each class during their Visual Arts lesson. If you have not received your sticker, please contact me on Compass and I will deliver one to a member of your family.
RECYCLING
Well done to the Community of Kingswood regarding recycling batteries. I have taken several tubs of batteries to the appropriate recycling centre since we started collecting in 2016. Did you know that Switzerland recycles 72% of its batteries and Australia only manages 3%. (War on Waste, ABC) Batteries are detrimental to the environment if thrown out in landfill. The batteries will break down and leech into the soil, making it impossible to grow anything. Please continue to recycle your batteries.
PLEASE DONATE
I am looking for 6 round dessert bowls for doing clay work with the Year 5/6's, if you have any unwanted bowls, please donate.
