Junior School Highlights

This period is an exciting time of year, with students meeting new classmates and teachers. There are also many opportunities to help students get excited for the year ahead. The Transition Program is in full flight. We had Project Rockit come in to teach students about Cyberbullying and Leadership, excursions to the zoo and the city. There are many student representative roles on offer for 2018: Peer Support, School Captains, eLearning Squad etc. It can all be a bit hectic and overwhelming. Information is available for students on the GEC Hub (link on the school website). Feel free to call with any questions or concerns.

Year 8 Highlights

The departing Year 8 Coordinator Mr Reynolds wishes the best to everyone going into Year 9. He enjoyed his time in the role but wants to focus on his teaching in the year ahead. Here are some of the things he had to say:

“It was great to see how many Year 8 students were called up for sporting and community awards at the last assembly. It doesn’t surprise me though.

I have really liked working in the Junior School team these last few years. I’ve always enjoyed, and have tried to focus on, the most satisfying part of this job that is about helping students through difficult times as they grow up and learn. It is a much better use of our time than the uniform passes and late detentions”.

And one last message from the former Year 8 Coordinator:

“Please wear the right socks in Year 9 so that your teachers can spend their time on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet rather than uniform passes”.

Next year Daniel Mulligan will be moving from Year 7 up Year 8 Coordination.

Year 9 Highlights

The Year 9 Program finished on a high with the students presenting their promotional videos to the rest of their classes. I would like to thank Mr Kelty, Ms Power, Mr Lou, Mr T Mulligan and Mr Pereira for all their work with the Year 9s in the Year 9 Program this year. The students have definitely achieved many things over the year and learned a lot along the way.

As this is my final newsletter of 2017, I would like to wish good luck to all the Year 9 students moving on to Senior School. It has been a pleasure coordinating you this year. Thanks must also go to all the parents who I have worked with as we supported your children in their learning and well-being.

Next year, Sarah Mortimer will be the new Year 9 Coordinator. I’m sure she’ll do a great job!

From the Junior School Captains

This has been an amazing year and we all agree that it has been the best one yet! Looking back on the year everybody achieved so much and gave it their all. It is so great to see how far we have all come from the start of the year. There were many great events and achievements throughout the year and we could not imagine having spent the year in any other way, with our school community.

It has been an honour being Junior School Captains and we strongly encourage many students to run for the wonderful opportunity next year. We would like to thank all students and teachers for their support, it would not have been the same without it.
