Assistant Principal's Report

Motivating your children during remote learning is central to their success. Motivation means ensuring they are interested, involved and confident in their learning. As a parent/guardian you have an important role to play by providing your student with encouragement and feedback.

Some ideas as to how you can support your student include:

  • having a routine and setting expectations;
  • making sure your student has a space to work in;
  • providing a level of supervision suitable to your student’s stage of development and individual needs;
  • monitoring communications from teachers;
  • checking in with your student to help them manage and pace their work; and
  • monitoring how much time your student is spending online.

With my personal screen time at an all-time high, it is essential we provide the space for our students to be off- line. Face to face interactions at home with designated, digital media free times can be beneficial to everyone’s mental health; be active, do something fun or creative, read a physical book are a few simple ways to distance ourselves from the screen.

Approving absences

Whilst we are learning remotely, it is as important as ever that all student absences are approved on Compass. Please log into Compass and approve the day/s or lesson/s of the absence. For those having trouble with the online approval, please call the general office and we will assist you with the approval. We are currently following up all unapproved absences for the term and will continue to do so regularly.

If families are experiencing difficulties with engaging their student in online learning, please contact your House Leader, classroom teacher or the Executive team so we can assist.
