Local Schools Fighting Extinction Showcase

Friday 9th November ten Year 7 students and five  Year 9 students manned stalls at the Local Schools Fighting Extinction Showcase held at the Healesville Sanctuary.

The Year 7 students showcased their work on the campaign ‘When balloons fly, seabirds die’. Displaying great posters, eco-friendly

decorations and bubble mixes that promoted alternative options to using balloons they  informed others of the devastating effects balloons can have on our ecosystems.

The Year 9 students assisted at the Farm School stalls where they shared their knowledge about conservation and even potted up native plants to give to people visiting their display.

Highlights for students included meeting dingo Maliki and her friend Maremma Dante and their keepers as well as  Southern Corroboree Frogs and Mountain Pygmy Possums.  They also heard  from wildlife conservation scientist Marissa Parrott about her experiences in the field helping endangered species. The participating schools also got a special mention at the Spirits of the Sky show. Students were able to visit the amazing displays from other participating local schools.
