Principal's Update

“Our greatest natural resource is in the minds of our children.”  Walt Disney

Our students were shining as they produced our very first production- A Beautiful Day.  The story was based on the winning entry from our Short Story Competition written by Holly Brabner, a budding talent.  The script writing team of students explored the ideas further and it was further enhanced by the music and lyrics written by Ms. AG.  The students' voices were amazing and brought tears to the eyes of many audience members.  The backstage crew, makeup and costume team did a wonderful job bringing the characters and setting to life.  They have set the standard and it will continue from strength to strength.  I look forward to what they will do next year.

Our Create Visual (Art) classes have been developing Natural Landscape Installations around the college. The fantastic work continues with as our students imagine new ways to look at the world around them.  It is another inspired approach to the local environment and using items from nature to extend the visual landscape through art.

I spent last Monday at Melbourne High School for the final day of the review as a challenge partner.  It was a wonderful professional learning experience and an opportunity to affirm the teaching and learning vision that our school has developed.

We had 10 students and parents, including our School Council President, attend the Remembrance Day commemoration in Brighton.  Peter Bartlett met the group and once again the students were wonderful ambassadors not only for our school but also the secondary government schools as we were the only government secondary school in attendance.

Student leaders have begun the discussion about what leadership will look like for 2019 and beyond.  Watch this space.

Orientation Day for Year 7 2019 is December 11th.  We will be holding it at the school. Most of our new team of teachers for 2019 will be able to join us. We are providing a Subway lunch for all students on the day.  Our current Year 7s can volunteer to be mentors on the day otherwise we will be running our usual program. It promises to be a terrific day.

We wish our Great Victorian Bike Ride contingent of students, parents and staff all the best as they embark on their Bright to Rutherglen trip this Saturday. We look forward to hearing all about their adventures.

Saturday will be a hive of activity at Beaumaris Secondary College as our Activity Centre will serve as a polling station in the State Election.

Bike Shed Update

We are designing and planning a bike shed that will accommodate a large number of bikes.  We have also considered a number of locations that will not be impacted by Stage 2 Building (yet to be funded).  As a result, we will have a temporary bike shed off of Balcombe Road as it is being built in Term 1.  We will be using temporary fencing on a slab that already exists at the northern end.  Students will enter through Gate 8.
