From the Principal

Dear Families,

After an action-packed first week back, we've settled into week two with a great many happenings across the school.  Much work is underway in beginning to plan for our Open days which will be coming up this term, with a number of new parents already undertaking tours of our school. If you have siblings, family members or friends intending to come to Trinity next year, please let our office know and we can organise a tour.

CBC ANZAC Ceremony

On Tuesday Miss Maryanne accompanied our school captains Sienna & Luca to CBC St Kilda for their ANZAC ceremony. It was a moving service and we feel honoured that our school was invited to participate. Thank you to our captains for representing our school so maturely and thanks to MIss Maryanne for accompanying them on the excursion.

First Reconciliation Parent Night

On Thursday evening, parents and candidates attended a First Reconciliation Family evening led by Sr Helen Carboon.  Sr Helen has worked with our community for many years and is always very engaging. Sr Helen led candidates and their families to reflect on the meaning of this sacrament, to share stories and experiences. Thank you to our families that attended, and to Mrs Holroyd, Miss Greene and Miss Recce for organising the evening.

Prayers

Our sincere condolences to Miss Antonella whose mother passed away last week. Our thoughts also to Miss Vicki and her husband Lou at the loss of Lou's father. As a community, our thoughts and prayers are with them this this time

Collection of Students & After School Care

Just a reminder that school ends at 3.15pm. Students need to be collected at the Kent Street gate by 3.30pm. At 3.30pm students are brought into the office. At 3.35pm, all students who are not collected are taken to After School Care, where fees apply. If you are running late to collect your child, please call the office and let us know. If you think you may be late occasionally, please enrol in After School Care prior to the day you are late. Enrolling is easy- see the links at the EXTEND section of this newsletter for details.

Support East Timor: Social Justice for Primary School from our Mini Vinnies

Sister Hillary, who has been an outstanding support to our Junior school, has raised our awareness of the challenges faced by students in East Timor. If they have the opportunity to go to school, most East Timorese students attend overcrowded classrooms with little or no teaching resources.

We are collecting the following to support these children:

Grey Lead Pencils

Coloured Pencils

Unused Exercise Books

All donations will be packaged and sent to East Timor by Sr Hillary. Mini Vinnies will be checking in with grades to see who collects the most donations, and donations will be accepted in the office from Monday.

Who's Responsible- Sustainability in the Junior School

On Monday I was shocked to find the Junior area a serious mess- tables turned over, books on the floor and papers littering the tables. Little did I know that this was an important shared learning activity for our Junior level on taking responsibility, as a part of their sustainability unit. The Junior teachers had spent a great deal of time "setting up" the activity before school and literally left no chair unturned. It was an extremely powerful activity, with students buzzing with questions such as "Why would someone make a mess and leave it?" and shared decisions such as "It's where we learn- if we want to learn, we need to be responsible to clean it up."

Such an activity lays a strong framework for building each student's understanding of the idea of personal responsibility, and how this underpins an appreciation for our environment.  Congratulations to the Junior school students for showing such maturity in your responses to the learning activity, and a big thanks to Miss Plackett, Miss O'Dea and Mrs Mandarano for planning such a great learning activity.

Thanks everyone- have a great week!

Pete
