Year 2/3/4 news

News From the Brolga Room

from Olivia

In numeracy grade 2/3/4 have been learning how to tell the time. With Ms Coolidge we have been trying to make a sand timer using two plastic cups, some tape and lots of sand. Our goal was to try and make the timer go for exactly one minute.

Grade 2/3/4 have also been learning how to teach a small group a simple skill such as how to make a paper plain or paper snowflake, or how to play a game like UNO or hangman.

In literacy we have been working on persuasive writing tasks such as; ‘which is better, the city or country?’ Also, in the eagles nest the grade 3s have been involved in Naplan.

For PITW, the 2/3/4s have been participating in zigzag ball, and our best time is 17-20 seconds to get from one side to the other.

We have also been talking about what our identity is and what are the things that make us who we are. We have been making identity posters to tell other people who we are.

Now you know what we have been doing for term two so far!

Last week students presented Inquiry projects. Students learned lots of new skills from their peers like magic card tricks, decorating a flower with buttons, tying a fishing hook on a line, creating word  monsters and learning to draw a number of different images. Students also made colourful identity posters with statements relating to them.

Students have continued learning about  Persuasive text with a focus on editing to improve their work. Openers and different connectives were used to up level writing pieces.

In maths students continued to work with reading time and exploring mental calculations using addition and subtraction.
