Student Representative Council

Representing all students

The Student Representative Council (SRC) is a group of elected students who collectively represent all students within the school. SRC works democratically and collaboratively to represent the student body in school decision-making and to organise ways for students to participate in and enjoy school life. Student representatives are approachable students who help to create and nurture constructive ideas within the school community. They focus on working on improving the student experience at Brunswick and foster school spirit and leadership among students.

The SRC holds elections each year to provide an opportunity for a diverse range of students to be involved, and to maintain a strong student voice within the school.

SRC captains, leaders and members

The SRC is led by the BSC school captains (who must be in their final year of school) and the SRC leadership team (who are elected from the SRC).

The SRC includes year level representatives (from all year levels) and area captains (from specific areas, including Media, Music, Performing Arts, Audio Visual, STEM, Sustainability, VCAL/VET, International Students, Houses and Peer Support).

The SRC is organised by subcommittees which target areas of the Sustainability, STEM, Student Agency, House, and any other area which students feel passionate about, such as Student Newsletter. The subcommittees are led by leaders elected from within the SRC. SRC leaders should collaborate with each other, supporting all student representatives to achieve positive outcomes.

The SRC includes students across all year levels, and we aim for it to be gender and culturally diverse, with students of different backgrounds and talents. Importantly, SRC must include students across the range of academic abilities. All students in the school are given the opportunity to nominate themselves or someone they believe would fit the role.

Advocate and communicate

Representatives are expected to attend meetings on a regular basis and attend other school events. Up to elected four representatives (including our two school captains) are active in council meetings and make a concerted effort to keep the student body informed about upcoming school projects and events.
