Book Week 2020

The COVID-19 lockdown did not affect the Information Resource Centre’s ability to launch the Book Week celebrations with a range of exciting and interactive activities last week.

Virtual Author Visits

Students from various year levels participated in virtual lectures from three very well known authors namely Alice Pung, Lili Wilkinson and Archie Fusillo on different days during the week. The authors spoke to the students about their life experiences, their creative process and their journey into the world of writing and publishing.  The lectures were both engaging and interactive and the authors were happy to respond to the many questions that the students asked.

Daily Quiz

This year instead of running the inter house quiz on only one day, we ran it online throughout the week during lunch breaks.  Students from all houses responded to quiz questions on books, authors, drama, dramatists, poems, poets as well as general knowledge and their knowledge about the school.

Spelling Bee Challenge

Student teams from all four houses participated in the online Interhouse Spelling Bee Challenge on Thursday. The Houses do have some great spellers as they were able to spell most difficult words correctly and gained points for their Houses.

Creative Writing

The Creative Writing competition ran throughout the week. A large number of students participated and submitted 5 worders, 50 worders, poems and some very interesting short stories. It is so pleasing to note that we have some great creative writers among our students.

Book Character/Multicultural Dress Up

The 2020 Book Week celebrations culminated with the book character/multicultural dress up day.  Students as well as staff were invited to dress up in either in any book character or multicultural dress and upload their photos for the IRC staff to judge the winners.
