BE INVOLVED, BE CONNECTED

Dear Parents and Carers,

We find ourselves in very strange times.  Lockdown 2.0 has taken a new turn in Melbourne, with a curfew and needing to stay within five kilometres of our homes.  What does it mean for us at school?  All teachers must work from home, only skeleton staff who are required to supervise children of permitted workers will be at school.  Please be mindful when your class teacher is on supervision duties they cannot be attending to remote learning. All students are learning remotely, even the very few who need to be supervised at the school. Our staff our working extremely hard preparing remote lessons, providing feedback and offering small group and live lessons.  I want to acknowledge parent support because I know how difficult it must be, especially if you are working from home.  The next six weeks will be tough for everyone, we have done it before, and we can do it again.

LANGUAGES FORUM | WEDNESDAY 12 AUGUST 6:00-7:00PM

Thank you for responding to the 2021 languages survey, we had 141 respondents which is fantastic to hear. We are also collecting information concerning the languages the students are interested in, the teachers preferences, and researching the local schools in the area.

We will be holding a virtual languages forum on Wednesday the 12th of August from 6:00pm to 7:00pm to allow you to explore these findings and to express any further thoughts you may wish us to take into consideration as part of the decision making process.

The languages committee would like to thank you for your participation and we would love to see you on Wednesday!

Please RSVP via the Languages Forum RSVP Form by Tuesday the 11th of August 4:00pm.

GRANT OPPORTUNITIES

We have recently applied for the following grants and if successful these grants will make a positive difference for our school.

Minor Capital Works Fund- $185,922 for play equipment.  We propose to remove the decking at the south eastern side of the school (back of the drill hall Aughtie Drive side).  School Council will continue to work with Parks Victoria in acquiring additional play equipment to be positioned on Parks Victoria land, on the eastern side (near basketball courts).  This is the project that Families & Friends are fundraising for.  With the anticipated growth of the school to be 550 students in the next few years, it is important to plan for this growth.  Ultimately, we would have three different play equipment spaces, each catering for the different sections of the school.

Greener Government School Buildings

The purpose of the Greener Government School Buildings program is to improve energy efficiency of government buildings and reduce operation costs and greenhouse gas emissions through the installation of solar power systems.

South Melbourne Community Chest Grant - $6000

Families & Friends have applied to South Melbourne Community Chest for an outdoor electric BBQ.  Hutchinson builders are donating $2000 towards this project. Many thanks to Yen (parent of Ethan and Jacob) for writing the grant application.  Yen has been amazing and very successful in the past in acquiring grants for the school.  Hopefully this one is also successful.

Take care and stay safe.
