Week 2 Term 3
It was fantastic to see so many Burkies back on deck after the school holidays last week, smiling and ready to learn. Each classroom that I visited had students and staff getting stuck into learning and I had lots of conversations with many students about what they were doing, what they were looking forward to and how they were feeling about learning.
Many thanks to our parents and caregivers who have been waiting outside the school gates and only entering school grounds if necessary. It is better to be safe than sorry, and these minor changes to how we operate within schools currently are designed to keep us all safe and healthy.
Due to COVID, our school photos have been rescheduled to Term 4, as our photographers are from Adelaide. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused. Our assemblies will continue to be virtual until further notice. Our cross country will be going ahead in Week 3, however, this year only students from years 3-6 will make the trek to Memorial Oval, and unfortunately, we can not have parents, caregivers and friends in attendance.
Our first P&C meeting for the term will be held in the staff room this Wednesday 29th July at 5.30pm. There will be plenty of hand sanitiser available and all visitors to the meeting will need to sign a form indicating they are in good health and that they have not been in Victoria for the previous 14 days. I look forward to meeting with those parents and caregivers who are able to attend.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 border restrictions, we have been forced to cancel the Year 4 Adelaide excursion for 2020. All payments that have been made can be either refunded or placed into credit for future use. Please contact the office on 8088 4700 and notify us of your preference.
All Broken Hill schools are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten. Orientation days will commence in Term 4. As schools in the Broken Hill area are zoned, please contact your nearest school for enrolment details.

Following the recent shut down due to COVID-19, School Banking will return on Thursday, 30 July 2020. Deposit books will need to be placed in the box in the front office before school begins and can be collected from lunch time. Please make sure all books are collected ASAP.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way to help young Australians learn about money and practice good saving habits. For each weekly deposit made at school, students will receive a Dollarmites token. Once they collect 10 tokens, they can redeem them for a School Banking reward.
If your child has previously participated in School Banking, or has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account, they can start banking straight away by bringing their Dollarmites deposit wallet to school on School Banking day (Thursdays).
Our School Banking program is made possible because of volunteers. Thank you to those volunteers for donating their time to run School Banking for our students.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2020 School Banking program parent guide from the school office or visit www.commbank.com.au/schoolbanking.
