Assistant Principal News

The next few weeks shape as pivotal times for students at Marian Catholic College, in particular those in Year 10 and Year 12.

Year 12 have one week of classes remaining before they sit their Trial Examinations. Students should be engaging in a range of study, revision and examination practice.

This may involve the construction of study notes - written, recorded, organised graphically, the rehearsal and retention of content and the completion of practice questions and/or modules.

It is vital that students take time next week to clarify with their teachers any questions they have about content, skills exam structure. Students should be submitting some study notes and practice responses for feedback in preparation for the exams.

While the Trials are a vital time, academically, it is just as important that students take care of their own well being. Students should still spend time with their families, undertake exercise and have some downtime to relax and participate in their hobbies.

Students, I encourage you to have discussions with your parents and employer to ensure you come to a suitable arrangement of work hours during this time and leading up to the HSC, allowing adequate time for preparation and minimising stress from external sources. The first exam will take place on Monday August 17th with English Paper 1 in the Hall.

Year 12 we wish you the best of luck.

Year 10 students also have some vital times ahead, with the opportunity over the coming weeks and months to demonstrate the maturity, responsibility and respect that comes with being a Senior Student at Marian Catholic College, ready for 2021.

This begins with the subject selection process for Year 11 next week. This year students and parents will have access to an online platform with subject and course information to help aid their choices.

Year 10 has already made a great start to this journey with 100% of our students successfully meeting the requirements in the Minimum Standards Test for Reading last week.

While the students have and will be busy, our staff have also been engaging in a range of Professional Learning. Behind the scenes our teams of teachers in the Gr8 Thinking, Numeracy and Growth Action Plan Teams have been collaborating and planning to improve student outcomes and teacher practice in a range of areas.

Both the College Middle Leaders and Emerging Leaders have also been participating in a Leadership Program designed to improve capacity to lead, improve others and move our College collectively forward. This work involves mapping the work of our Leaders to the Highly Accomplished Standards for teachers. We look forward to these sessions continuing over the course of this Semester.

Yours in Learning,
