What's happening in the 5/6 classrooms

The students in the senior school have embraced the return to home learning extremely well. It has been great to see their smiling faces in all of our online lessons over the past few weeks.

In Religious Education, our big question is “Where do we see God?” Throughout the term we will be focussing on the Holy Trinity and the three ways that God is presented to us.

In Inquiry the concept we are focussing on is Place and Space. Our big inquiry question is “What’s out there and how do we know?” We will be narrowing down our space explorations into 5 areas:

  • Our Earth and moon system
  • The Sun, light and eclipses
  • The solar system - sun, planets and moons
  • Other parts of the solar system
  • Gravity

So far the students have had a brief look at each area and have formed some great questions of their own!

In English, we are reading and navigating lots of non-fiction texts to prepare the students for writing their own information reports about space.

In Mathematics the start of the term has seen us consolidating our understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages and using this knowledge to create budgets and calculate discounts.

In Social and Emotional Learning we are looking at persistence and how there are many ways to be persistent in all situations. The senior students have created posters to remind themselves about the importance of thinking positively.
