What's happening in the Junior classrooms

The Junior School has been engaging with their distance learning and exploring the concepts of Prayer, Weather, Information Reports, Addition & Subtraction and Persistence.

In Religious Education we have been learning about Prayer and its different forms, including formal prayers (such as the Our Father) and informal prayers (such as personal prayers). The students have written their own prayers of gratitude.

For our Inquiry learning, we have been learning about the weather. Students have been tracking the weather each day using different adjectives. Is it sunny weather, cold weather, warm weather or rainy weather? The Year 1/2s have been extending their learning into the different seasons: summer, autumn, winter and spring.

In English, the Junior School has been focusing on Information Reports. These are factual texts that give information about a specific topic. The Year 1/2s have been learning about the parts of speech: nouns (people, places, animals or things), action verbs (doing words) and adjectives (describing words). We have also been learning about the spelling rules, such as the rule that tells us when to use 'c,' 'k,' or 'ck,' at the end of a word.

We have been revisiting Number in Maths. The Junior School has been counting by ones, twos, fives and tens. The Year 1/2s have been breaking apart numbers, representing them on number lines and with bundles.

Finally, for our Social & Emotional Learning, we have been focused on persistence. We have been learning to never give up, keep on trying or try a different way if necessary.  We have also been finding ways to work together as a team and help each other face challenges.
