Supporting your child’s Literacy development at home
Taking part in your child’s literacy experiences at home can help to develop his/her reading ability, comprehension, and language skills. It could also improve your child’s interest in and attitude to reading and writing. Some activities to engage in:
- reading together
- storytelling
- sharing nursery rhymes
- labelling objects
- singing, drawing and telling stories
- playing word games, e.g. Scrabble, Boggle, Crosswords, Word Finds
- asking questions before, during and after reading
- making lists
- writing cards and letters
